Below are actual cases and real results. They are representative of only a percentage of cases won by Nathan Akamine. Although we cannot guarantee the outcome of any case, we will work hard to get you the best result possible for your specific circumstances and we have the succuess rate to prove it.
Drug Charges
Charge: Misdemeanor Drug and Intoxication Charges
Result: Out-of-state client charged with misdemeanor drug and intoxication charges. I was able to arrange a resolution in which client did not have to return to Ohio. I arranged plea to an intoxication charge with only a fine and could be accomplished without him leaving his home state. It was later determined that my client was on felony probation in his home state and any conviction could result in prison time. Negotiation reached in which case was closed without any conviction in exchange for forfeiture of bond money to court.

Charge: Possession of Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia
Result: All charges dismissed.
10/2019
Violent Crimes
Charge: Felonious Assault, Robbery, and Tampering with Evidence.
Result: Allegations were that client and co-defendants attacked and robbed a female acquaintance. My client insisted he had very limited involvement. After a year of trial preparation and negotiations, the case was reduced to a misdemeanor with no further penalties or probation. Client did not spend a day in jail during the pendency of the case.

Charge: Domestic Violence and Assault
Result: Client was charged stemming from a dispute with ex-girlfriend. Client believed the ex-girlfriend was jealous and wanted to be back in his life against his wishes. Case dismissed after I was able to locate an online evaluation that was acceptable to the prosecution. The Spanish speaking client was not suitable for traditional in-person evaluation due to language barrier.
3/2020
Charge: Threatening Violence
Result: Client, a city worker for 20 years, was charged by son and wife for threatening family with a gun. Son was estranged and convinced family that event happened. Wife later recanted her testimony. Case dismissed after negotiation in which I arranged a general assessment of my client.

Charge: Domestic Violence and Assault
Result: Client faced up to six-month jail on both charges. All charges dismissed prior to starting the trial.

Charge: Domestic Violence and Assault
Result: A business owner was charged by a girlfriend. All charges dismissed in exchange for payment of court costs.

Result: A veteran charged with violent crimes. All charges dismissed on trial date.

Charge: Domestic Violence and Assault
Result: A client without legal status charged with harming a family member. Case dismissed in exchange for a plea to an unrelated traffic offense.
5/2018
Charge: Attempted Murder, Felonious Assault, and Weapon Under Disability
Result: Client faced up to 20 years imprisonment. The jury found the client not guilty of all charges.

Theft Crimes
Charge: Theft
Result: Client was charged with stealing a car. Witnesses and car owner alleged client had no right to access of the car. Law enforcement did not believe he had any right to the car despite client’s insistence he bought it. Unfortunately, my client did have not receipts or ownership paperwork. Case dismissed in its entirety the night before trial.

Charge: Felony Burglary and Grand Theft
Result: I was able to push the clients case to trial and work out a no jail sentence, community labor and a dismissal after probation is finished.
10/2019
Charge: Felony Theft
Result: Client faced up to 15 years imprisonment. We refused a plea under judicial diversion and demanded a jury trial. The State dismissed the case the day before trial.

Sex Crimes
Charge: Rape and sexual imposition
Result: The State offered 8 years in prison; offer rejected. During the trial, a misdemeanor offer and immediate release were negotiated after cross-examination of the State’s primary witness.
10/2019
Charge: Rape
Result: Client was arrested for rape and assault on his ex girlfriend. We got the DA to agree to dismiss the rape charges. Client pled to a battery charge and was given probation and time served. If he was convicted of the rape charge, he would’ve had to register for life under and go to prison for years.

DUI – OVI
Charge: OVI
Result: Client charged with OVI after evening spent with co-workers. Client was tired due to full day of work and lateness of hour of the stop. Police believed he was impaired rather than tired. After review of the video I was able to point out issues with both the field sobriety tests and police documentation. Reduction of the OVI to a non-moving violation. I was able to prevent any restrictions or suspension on his license. My client was able to work and conduct his everyday life without any disruption other than our two court visits.
3/2020
Charge: Multiple offender OVI
Result: Client with 3 OVI priors within the past 10 years charged with OVI and refusal to take a breath test. He faced a mandatory 60 days in jail and forfeiture of his vehicle if convicted. Resolved case and was able to convince judge and prosecutor to only impose a 3-day education class at a hotel and probation. No jail time imposed and client was able to maintain his job uninterrupted. His car was also released from seizure.

Charge: Multiple offender OVI
Result: Client involved in an injury accident facing mandatory 30 days of jail. Case reduced to a non-moving violation with no jail time imposed.

Charge: OVI
Result: Out-of-state Attorney charged with OVI while visiting Ohio. Negotiated a plea to speeding violation.

Charge: OVI
Result: A multiple offender was facing mandatory jail time. Case dismissed by prosecution day before trial due to testimony elicited during a motion hearing.

Other
Charge: Probation Violation
Result: Defendant arrested on new charges and holder placed on him for violating his probation. Defendant informed by previous attorney that he would likely serve the rest of his probation time in jail. I was able to have holder lifted and defendant released upon resolution to new charges.
1/2020
Charge: Probation Violation
Result: Probation violation filed for client who was recently charged with multiple domestic violence charges. Client was also alleged to have missed urine drops, failed to make child support payments, and had several positive tests for prohibited substances. Probation reinstated after first probation hearing. No jail time imposed.

Charge: Obstructing
Result: Client faced a possible six-month jail term. The jury found the client not guilty of all charges.
